Managed PostgreSQL is now live on Switch Cloud
Switch Cloud customers can now provision fully managed PostgreSQL databases directly via Switch Cloud portal, powered by Servala and operated by VSHN. The service is available today to all Switch Cloud account holders - see Switch's own announcement for the full details.
From partnership to product
Back in June, we announced that Switch joined Servala as a Cloud Service Provider, expanding Switzerland's sovereign cloud ecosystem for universities and research institutions. That partnership has now produced its first concrete result: Managed PostgreSQL, ready to use.
What's included
Every Servala PostgreSQL instance on Switch Cloud comes with:
Always up to date - the latest supported PostgreSQL versions, with new features, performance improvements, and security patches applied automatically
High availability and performance SLIs - core service level indicators such as instance availability, replication lag, and backup success rate are continuously monitored
Flexible replication and scaling - choose between 1, or 3 replicas and scale up to 500 GiB, balancing performance, redundancy, and cost
Swiss data sovereignty - data stays on Switch Cloud infrastructure, hosted exclusively in Switzerland, under Swiss law
Fully managed operations - VSHN handles provisioning, backups, updates, and scaling, so no in-house database administrator is required
Built for the Swiss research and education community

How it works
Managed PostgreSQL is available exclusively to Switch Cloud account holders, accessible directly through the Switch Cloud portal. If you don't have a Switch Cloud account yet, you can request one via Switch - once it's active, Servala and other partner services become available to you.
Behind the scenes, the service runs on Servala, the sovereign application platform initiated by VSHN, and is operated day to day by VSHN - a Swiss, ISO 27001 certified managed services provider with years of experience running production database infrastructure.
